Finding Support and Hope for Grieving Widows

Do you often struggle to know how to best support those who are hurting in your church body? Do widows present one of the most challenging groups because of the deep loss they’ve incurred? Do you want to follow scriptures’ admonition to care for the “widow, orphan, and sojourner among you,” but feel inadequate as to how to even begin?

Lynne Hoeksema has been a long-time member of EFCA Central churches and is currently a part of the new Greenbelt Community Church plant in Clive.  Lynne was called by God to begin a ministry entitled “Be a Blessing to Your Grieving Friend” after the death of her husband of 31 years in October 2017.  She speaks to two distinct groups: those who are grieving a deep loss, of any kind; and the support system of those who are hurting.

In the following video, Lynne shares information about a newly formed Facebook group, “Christian Widow Grief Academy” which may be a source of support and education for widows in your church body.  I would encourage you to share this information with anyone you feel could benefit from a group such as this.

You may learn more about her broader ministry at her website, or through her books, Cultivating Compassion and The Honest Griever.
